Study, Work, Live in Lithuania

If you are already set on starting a visa application to visit Lithuania, then it is time for you to check some requirements for the application process. A Schengen visa application usually asks for documents such as a passport, photos, and an application form, but keep reading for more detailed information about the Lithuania visa application process.

What Are The Requirements for a Lithuania Visa?

These are the requirements for a Lithuania visa application:

  • Passport.
  • Lithuania visa application form.
  • Identity photo.
  • Travel insurance.
  • Cover letter.
  • Proof of accommodation.
  • Financial stability.
  • Flight reservation.
  • Visa fee payment.
  • Invitation letter.
  • Documentation for employment status.

Passport

Your passport is one of the essential documents for your visa application. First, you need to make sure it’s valid at least three months after your trip to Lithuania— if it isn’t, you need to apply for a new passport before applying for the visa. Your passport also needs two blank pages for the visa stamp.

Some visa applications will also ask you to submit copies of your passport— the embassy/consulate will let you know.

Application Form

The next document required for your visa application is a Lithuania application form. The form must be filled correctly in and signed by you to start your application process.

The form asks for your personal information like your name, home country, nationality, when you were born, and why you want to visit Lithuania. You can check how to complete a visa application form.

You can usually find the application form here; you can fill it out online, save it, download it and print it out. However, if this is unavailable in your country, you must contact the embassy or consulate to retrieve an application form.

Identity Pictures

Besides the Lithuania visa application form, you must also submit one photo. Your photo must fulfill the Lithuania Schengen visa photo requirements, such as:

  • The dimension of the photo should be 35x40mm.
  • You must take your photo in front of a white background with no shadows.
  • You must submit a recent photo of yourself, not older than three months.
  • Your face must be visible with no shadows, high contrast, or over-exposure in the photo.
  • You must avoid blurriness in your photo.
  • Glasses with thick frames and sunglasses are not allowed.
  • Head attire related to religious beliefs is allowed as long as they do not cover your face.

Travel Insurance

You must own private travel medical insurance before applying for the Lithuania visa. Since Lithuania is a Schengen country, the travel medical insurance must follow the Schengen visa insurance requirements, which are:

  • Coverage of at least €30,000 for medical emergencies.
  • Coverage in every Schengen country.
  • Coverage for your entire stay.

Cover Letter

You must also include a cover letter for your Lithuania visa application. In your cover letter, you must provide personal information about yourself, your employment status, and your planned itinerary to visit Lithuania. You must also mention if you plan on visiting any other Schengen country with the visa.

Proof of Accommodation

Besides the requirements mentioned above, another document you must submit for the Lithuania Visa is proof of accommodation:

  • Reservation of a hotel or Airbnb.
  • A rental agreement with a Lithuanian tenant.
  • Invitation letter if you want to visit a Lithuanian family member or friend.

Financial Stability

For your visa application to be accepted, you must submit proof that you can provide for your entire stay in Lithuania. You can submit your bank statements as proof.

Suppose you are incapable of paying for the trip expenses. In that case, you can ask for a family member or friend legally residing in Lithuania to act as a guarantor. They can help by writing an invitation letter which states that they will be able to support your trip financially.

Flight/Travel Itinerary

The travel itinerary is a requirement for your Lithuania visa application, and you must fill it in with as much detail as possible. The letter must contain a complete itinerary and what you plan on doing during your visit to Lithuania. You must also include that you have booked a hotel, you have purchased plane tickets for your return home, etc.

Payment of Lithuania Visa Fee

If you need a visa to visit Lithuania, you must also pay the visa fee during your Lithuania visa application. You can find out how to pay the fee from the Lithuanian embassy, but it is usually done in person before or during your application process. A document that shows that you have paid the visa fee will be given to you, which you must add to your visa application.

Letter of Invitation

The invitation letter is a document written by your guarantor. A guarantor is considered a Lithuanian family member or friend you will visit. If the Lithuanian guarantor has not registered their place of residence in Lithuania, they cannot write an invitation letter. An invitation letter will prove you are only visiting the country and will return once the visa expires.

Documents for Employment Status

Another way to prove that you have enough financial means to support your trip to Lithuania is to prove that you currently work and have a stable income. You must submit documents such as:

  • Bank statements that show your finances for the last three months.
  • Your credit card.
  • Proof of employment like a work contract.
  • If a guarantor is sponsoring you, they must submit supporting documents.
  • Proof of paid transport. You must have a flight ticket reserved beforehand.

Lithuania Visa Requirements For Minors

Besides the main requirements, a few extra documents are needed if you apply for a minor:

  • Birth certificate of the minor.
  • Adoption certificate.
  • Divorce paper if the parents of the minor are divorced.
  • Death certificate if one of the parents of the minor is deceased.
  • Consent from both parents.
  • Passports of both parents.

Lithuania Visa Document Guidelines

All documents that you must submit for the Lithuania visa application need to be legalized and notarized— the required documents must also:

  • Be translated into Lithuanian before submission.
  • Contain an apostille stamp.

An apostille stamp is a form of legalizing and notarizing your documents. It is used to authenticate your documents to be valid for the visa application process.

You do not need to translate the documents or translate them into Lithuanian if your documents have been issued in an EU/EEA country.

What if I Don’t Have All The Documents When I Apply?

If by any chance, you have any missing documents during your visa application process, your application will not be considered. You must make sure that you submit all required documents so your application can be considered valid. You can not start the application process unless all documents are provided.
